Week of the Young Child™ 2017: Celebrating Our Youngest Learners!

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs (NAEYC.org).

During this week (April 24th - 28th), the ECC will be celebrating its young learners in many different ways. The following is a schedule of our events.

April 24th à Movement Monday
April 25th à Totally Artsy Tuesday

April 26th à Wacky Wednesday

April 26th à ECC Family Fun Literacy Night

                           6pm at the Middle School

 April 27th à STEM Thursday
 April 28th à Fun Friday

If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher.

March 30, 2017

Dear ECC Families,

I wanted to update you all on the changes that will be made in the 2017-18 academic year.

During last night’s ECC meeting, Mr. Garrido informed us that we will not be moving to trailers and that space has been found in each of the three elementary schools.

Sherman School will be the new home of the PSD program. Miss Casale will remain the teacher.

Robert Gordan will be the new home of the full-day program. Miss Bury will be the classroom teacher.

Aldene will be the new home of the am/pm session. Miss Ripka will be the classroom teacher. If you would prefer am or pm session, please let me know.

Families will still have the option of before- and after-school care.

Tuition will remain the same: $350.00 per month for the half-day am/pm sessions and $700.00 a month for the full day.

We are in the process of finalizing the class roster, and I will send you an email regarding placement next week together with a survey to elicit your opinions on arrival and dismissal times and any concerns and suggestions you may have, etc.

I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Greetings,

I hope everybody is enjoying the remainder of the summer. It’s hard to believe that a new school year will begin in just a few short days, but I’m really looking forward to welcoming new and old faces alike.

I am really excited about some of the changes that will be taking place at the ECC. First, I would like to welcome Sabrina Casale as the new PSD teacher. Families will have an opportunity to meet her during our scheduled Meet and Greet on September 7th at 10 am.  Second, I am pleased to announce that students will have an opportunity to participate in Gym and/or Spanish classes this year. Your classroom teacher will provide you with the schedule. Kinderdance will continue to offer the afterschool enrichment program. However, this year, Kinderdance will also offer a yoga program. More details will be provided during our Back to School night, which is scheduled for October 5th at 6 pm.

Another change at the ECC that will be implemented this year relates to the student arrival process. Parents/Guardians will be asked to say their good-byes and give their hugs at the classroom door. The student will be greeted by the classroom teacher or para upon arrival. Separation can be difficult in the beginning and is often harder for the adult then the child. The quicker the good-bye the easier it will be for you and your child. Strategies will be put in place for children that are upset after their parents/guardians leave. Strategies will include comforting the child with words or a hug, pictures of the family posted in the room, fun and exciting activities planned though out the class. It is important to get you and your child familiar with the process of drop-offs. If you have any concerns or question please do not hesitate to talk to me.

The front door will be opened at 8:25 am and will close at 8:35 am. Please make sure your child arrives on time. The ECC will continue to serve breakfast and lunch for an additional fee. Your child’s teacher will provide you with more information during the scheduled meet and great.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on September 7th!

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at psicignano@rpsd.org or call me at 908-298-6825.

Philosophy:

The Roselle Park John J. Adase Early Childhood Center believes in Creative Curriculum:

Children learn best by doing.

Our goal is for each child to become an independent, self-confident, active learner in the following areas of development:

Social: To help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.

Emotional: To help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life.

Physical: To help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.

Cognitive:
To help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

The Early Childhood Center also incorporates the program, Handwriting Without Tears and uses this sequence when teaching students their letters.  The program also uses a multi-sensory approach to teaching letter sounds.
